Joni Lynn Peters

Exciting news for Joni Lynn Peters of Armstrong, B.C. and her partner Wilken! They have been invited to ride and train with Udo Lange and Christilot Boylen in Germany. The invitation was extended at a recent clinic with Udo and Christilot in Langley, where high praise was given for the progress that was made by the pair since November's Symposium. This is a real credit to Joni's talent and dedication as she, for the most part, rides and trains on her own in the Interior of B.C.

A local rider and Level III Eventing Coach, Joni Lynn Peters has shown her riding and training skills in many venues across the country. Joni and her well known eventing mounts The Equalizer, Snap Decision and Lord Ramsay competed successfully at venues such as Rolex, Radnor, Ram Tap, Fair Hill, Wild Horse Valley, Checkmate and Bromont. She has been long listed to the Canadian Eventing Team on three occasions, she was named the Ontario Horse Trials Leading Female Rider 6 times!

Joni's talented partner "The Equalizer" was purchased as a three year old eventing prospect in 1987. In 1995, at the age of eleven, he was listed on the Canadian Eventing Team.

At this time Joni chose to pursue excellence in Dressage with both Snap Decision and The Equalizer. The Equalizer wound up the year as both BC and Canadian (Pacific Division) Medium 4 Champion and Snap Decision finished 6th in BC and 10th in the Canadian Championships (Pacific Division) in Intermediare 1.

In 1998-99 Joni and The Equalizer were shortlisted to the Canadian Dressage Team, during this time they also met the qualifying criteria for the Pan American Games Selection Trial but unfortunately was not able to compete due to injury. In 2000 The Equalizer was back wowing the crowds with his breathtaking Freestyle and many prestigious wins. Stable mate, Wilken made his debut in the ring with a very successful year at the Basic III and IV Level, winding up the year with Reserve Basic III B. C. Champion and Basic IV B. C. Champion. Wilken, the rising star, is a 16'2 hand Canadian Warmblood purchased in 1999. He competed Basic III and IV in 2000 and moved up to Medium in 2001.

Joni plans on moving up to Intermediare 1 and Prix St. Georges this year with the goal being to return to Canada next spring in time for the Canadian Selection Trial process for the Pan American Games. If all proceeds as planned, the focus will be on moving up to Grand Prix level in time for Olympic selection.

Fund raising endeavors have been initiated to help Joni in this 'chance of a lifetime' opportunity. This has been started on very short notice as Joni never anticipated this opportunity. A Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction took place Sunday April 14, 2002 at the Schubert Center in Vernon. To read more about it, click here.
