Kamloops Spring Classic 2002

The 21st Annual Kamloops Spring Classic Hunter Jumper Show was held May 2-5, 2002 at the Kamloops Exhibition Grounds. Entries were considerable at 262 horses, up 22 from last year, making this the largest horse show in the Interior. Vying for $10,000 in awards and prize money, competitors came from Bainbridge Island and Spokane, Dawson Creek, Prince George, Williams Lake as well as the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Interior. Even the addition of a permanent new barn and portables brought in could not accommodate the number of entries, with several entries being turned down. Organizers report another very successful show with top calibre competition throughout. Two hunter rings and two jumper rings going simultaneously made for very full days.

A good part of the Spring Classic's success is their reputation for bringing in top calibre officials. This year's roster included Hunter Judges Barbie Whitworth , Half Moon Bay, B.C. and Fran McAvity, Vancouver, B.C. Jumper Judges Thomas Michiel and Ray Antonuk, Calgary, Alberta as well as Hunter Course Designer Lotte Kingsmill-Lysyshyn, Saskatchewan and Jumper Course Designer Peter Holmes of Victoria. The footing at the KXA generally holds up well under adverse weather conditions, which is generally put to the test at some point in time during the show. This year was no exception as everything from sunny & warm to gale force winds and hail were experienced. A credit to the committee and crew that all the jumps were firmly secured and didn't blow over and the show was uninterrupted.

With 105 classes and as much as 60 horses in a class total results are too numerous to list, but a few of the highlights are as follows:
